No one can hide light in darkness and so we had a wonderful person who is living as a light in a dark area. He knew very well that more light was needed to overcome the darkness and that is when he connected with us.
We decided to travel and it was a drive of 270 KM from the place we live but the distance did not deter us from visiting a very remote place where people lived without any of the modern conveniences, even without basic electric supply for lighting.
These tribal people are identified as Muriyas and they speak Telugu in addition to their own tribal language.
Visiting them, we saw a different world within our world. Their shelter, their food, their living conditions were so pathetic. Once the sun sets, the only light that rules them is the light of the moon. We really had a feel of how man lived before electricity was invented. For us, after living in all the luxury that modern technology has provided; their condition was something very different.
We met the headman and spoke to him for a while to learn about their way of life and the challenges that they faced.
So we decided to act and installed Charis solar Power supply in his premises. The Charis power system is a device that powers a DC fan and two LED lights. This system is totally solar powered and has up to a 12-hour battery backup post sunset.
Following that, we provided a few more Charis power units to other homes. After the installations, we carried out a survey to learn about their many other needs.
We concluded that installing solar street lights will benefit them at night, and are working with the local collobrators on this. 40 familes stands benefitted because of these initiatives.
Fortunately, the government runs an anganwadi that cares for basic health and basic education. We know Our steps were very small but the message that they received is HUGE.
We spent time with them, had the opportunity to carry little babies, feel their hearts and emotions and leave a message that they are not alone but there are many who are with them.
I thank the volunteers and all those who joined hands with us in this act of love.
